Many thanks to those involved in the development of entertainment sector of Nigerian economy, especially from year 2000 and above. They offer hope to majority of Nigerian Youth, though very delicate. The position of entertainment before this era can comfortably be described as doldrums until year 2000. But the advent of Global Services for Mobile Telecommunication (GSM) and Bank consolidation contributed to drastic positive changes in the industry and has continued to witness tremendous innovation thereafter. It has become a solid medium to advertise product development, values, morality and immorality.
It has become a major source of bringing happiness to the faces of Nigerians, despite many ugly incidences in the society. Many musicians and other artists became the toast at various federal and state government functions. Night of a thousand laughs, laugh matters, nollywood, and different entertainment arrangement became the order of the day.

It is necessary to note that among the causes of alleviating poverty, material things are secondary; those material things are natural wealth, capital and infrastructure. According to Schumnacher, “the primary cause of poverty remains the immaterial, which is a deficiency in education, organization and discipline”. Development does not start with assets; it starts with people: education, organization and discipline. That is what management called system.
If the central problem of development lies on these three words, then the alleviation of poverty depends on the removal of these deficiencies. Schumacher, in the book “Small is Beautiful”, listed these as the reason why development cannot be an act of creation, ordered or bought; it requires a process of evolution. It is a gradual process of great subtlety which should be the property of the whole society.

Yes, you cannot stop development, but you can control the use of that development to the benefit of your citizens. The loopholes of relevant agencies’ ineffectiveness are being filled with entertainment characteristics. Pool units, lottery centers, drinking joints, hot drinks in herbal coloration are fast developing than the religious branches and government agencies: all targeting the youth. Many thought skill acquisition is the real solution, thus, different skills and leadership seminars with emoluments were arranged for the youths. But, the reality has shown that multitude of skills had no impact on our youth’s perception. Why?
Entertainment, internet and social freedom have taken over the airwaves that Government and Religious Organizations have no option but to swim in the waves. Freedom of choices, child right, sex right, freedom of speech and association, freedom of religion, marriage rights, and many rights pervade the environment to a level that youth are the culprit of the societal ills.
